Fresh out of university, I was fortunate to land a Graduate Management Scheme role for one of the large corporate Estate Agencies. Eager to impress, I headed to Amazon and bought a book titled ‘Blueprint For Estate Agency Success’. Feeling confident, I travelled to my induction in Milton Keynes. Upon arrival, I was met with a board stating, ‘Welcome Residential Lettings Graduates’. I didn’t know what residential lettings was!
Fast-forward a few years (and now having a firm understanding of lettings), I was tasked with managing the student lettings department of a corporate agency. After doing so for a few more years, I decided the time was right to go out alone.
I started my own lettings agency without any detailed business plans or any form of investment – just the knowledge that I could do the job well and with the hope that I’d pick up the rest along the way. That’s exactly how it transpired, and via organic growth, we managed well over 100 properties consisting mainly of large houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). We acted on behalf of clients ranging from landlords with a single property to commercial investors with large portfolios. We operated separate residential and commercial divisions of the business, along with implementing an investment advisory and property refurbishment consultancy.
After eight happy/stressful/successful years of business ownership, I decided the time was right for a new challenge. I sold my company in 2023 and focused on property renovations, which is one of my favourite parts of working in property.
I’d met Alex Davies and Greg Wood a year before I sold my business. We kept in touch, and I joined Hobbs Parker a year later. I’m now tasked with helping to improve our customer service standards, business processes and grow our business.
Being local to Ashford, I already knew a lot about Hobbs Parker, who assisted with selling my family’s farm in Densole about 20 years ago. Hobbs Parker also looked after the sale of the livestock and farm machinery.
Outside of work and property renovations, I try to be active and like to complete fitness challenges such as Man v Coast – the coast won! I also spend as much time with my young family as possible.
