Two previous keepers. Current owner since 1997.

Vendor states:

I acquired the vehicle in January 1997 from John Griffiths, a Mercedes Benz specialist in Reading. The vehicle had a Mercedes Benz main dealer (Woking Motors) service history and the odometer reading was around 63,000 miles as I recall. It has been regularly serviced by John Griffiths until I placed the car in a lock up garage in mid-2004 where it has been ever since. The tax disc has an expiry date of 31 August 2004 and the odometer reads 145396. The car served me very well and was in good running order when placed in storage. I have the stamped service history booklets, main MB dealer before I acquired it in 1997 and then John Griffiths. Unfortunately, I no longer have copies of the bills as the file was inadvertently destroyed in an office move.

In August 2022 I arranged an inspection by a motoring journalist and classic car collector who is known to me. He inspected with a colleague who held a senior position with Mercedes Benz and is also a classic car collector. Their joint opinion was that the car is in the nature of a “barn find” and should be saved from scrap heap or broken up for spares if at all possible. They noted the following points:

• engine fired up (after using Quick Start) and sounded sweet with good oil pressure.

• suspected fuel pipe blockage, likely caused as 3/4 tank of fuel degradation after car laid up for what was then circa 15 years or more.

• no significant signs of rust/corrosion in wheel arch, bumpers and under rear window area.

• parking brake left off during storage which is good.
