An Expert Witness can be anyone with knowledge or experience of a particular field. The Expert Witness’s overriding duty is to the Court or Tribunal, and not to the instructing client. They are to provide an impartial, unbiased professional opinion on aspects of matters within their expertise, which are in dispute.

Expert Evidence is relied upon in legal proceedings.

Initially, and most usually this is in the form of a written report. Meetings between experts, or presentation of oral evidence to the tribunal/court may follow.

The Expert can be instructed on behalf of one of the parties to the dispute, or in many cases appointed as a Single Joint Expert.

A Single Joint Expert is jointly instructed by parties to the dispute, to provide their unbiased opinion to the instructing court/tribunal, with the aim of reducing the timescales and the costs associated with the dispute and the wider dispute resolution process.

The RICS Expert Witness Certificate

With more than 10 years of professional experience, Vicky Phillips passed the requirements of the RICS Expert Witness Certificate.

The Course is run with input from barristers and a Judge and includes online assessments and a mock cross-examination of your own report.

It provides an insight into the legislation, regulation, procedure, and responsibilities of an Expert Witness. It provides a benchmark to ensure that your Expert is conversant with the process, able, and experienced in delivering their opinion.
