Classic Car and Motorcycle Auction Report – 2 November 2018
Sale report and prices from our November 2018 auction — our first Autumn Classic Car and Motorcycle Auction.
This was our second Classic Car Auction of 2018. A beautiful Autumn day welcomed a large crowd of enthusiastic buyers.
Any signs of uncertainty in the market with Brexit approaching were quickly forgotten as the bidding became infectious.
We attracted some interesting and eclectic cars, some pre-war for the traditional vintage car buyers, 70’s and 80’s cars which are the hot property of the market and 90’s cars which are noticeably emerging as the biggest movers with room remaining left to grow.
Auction Highlights
A recently restored MG TF showed the interest in (pre-war shape) British sports cars is still strong making £22,000 + premium and the charming little 1935 Morris 8 Tourer saw a wave of bidding as it reached £11,800 + premium. For the person seeking a winter project the 1934 Austin 6 Tourer was highly original, it had come from a collection where it had resided for the past 40 plus years, it was perfect for an oily rag restoration and reached £5,400 + premium.
A 1952 Sunbeam Talbot 90 MK2 Coupe which had been restored very well with no expense spared would have looked expensive in comparison with others for sale, but this car was truly a sensational value when you take into account restoration costs and the hours of work involved, it raced on to £16,000 + premium.
Seventies sports cars were represented by the 1970 Jensen Interceptor which had been little used for the past 10 years and needed fettling, however, it appeared solid and went on to achieve £17,000 + premium.
The 1971 Lotus Elan + 2 S was in fabulous condition and a well-sorted car as it went on to achieve its upper estimate of £12,000 + premium.
The well followed 80’s cars appeared, including a tidy 1986 Porsche 944 Ventiller making £6,400 + premium, a nicely restored 1990 Volkswagen Caddy Pickup exceeded its estimate to achieve £4,200 + premium.
Two low mileage Mercedes were my picks of the day and I think they both represented fantastic sense when you take into account the individual condition and build quality of that era’s Mercs. The 1992 300 SL 24V and 1991 300 SE both being garaged from new cars.
All the motorbikes sold well, with the 1914 Alldays Matchless and 1928 Scott Super Squirrel creating particular attention.
The full results are below, in the meantime, I’d better go and find some more classics for next year!
I look forward to seeing you in 2019.
