Planning permission for a dairy building for cheese and yoghurt making

Set in an AONB and in amongst a busy farmyard with a Listed farmhouse, a new dairy building in the open countryside was always going to raise some tricky planning issues.

The client had a pressing need to expand the dairy operations and was under a tight timeframe.

Limited siting options were available for the building and the dairy unit itself was a modular pre-built one arriving from Europe, there were no amendments that could be taken in relation to design.

The client needed a firm of planning consultants who were familiar with rural planning and the issues relating to the specialist nature of new farm buildings and diversification.  Having approached us early on we were able to quickly visit the site and establish the best way forward for the client who had already committed to the dairy unit being built.

  • Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where there are strong planning policies to respect the visual quality of the area.
  • Tight timeframe required to obtain consent as the unit was already being constructed in Europe and delivery was imminent.

Planning permission was granted within 12 weeks of being submitted.
