Weekly Sales News – 16th June 2020
The sheep trade took a drop this week (not unexpected) but nicely bred lambs with weight, in particular, still look well sold. Away from the sheep the finished cattle were a stronger trade and we will offer nearly 200 store and breeding cattle next week.
Read on for this weeks reports….
Finished Sheep

Top price per kilo –243p – C A Worley Farming Ltd; Top price per head – £105 – H & S Nesfield
Report on trade: Almost 2,000 new season lambs penned this week and as is the case most years, the coincidence of this number of lambs forward, usually means the trade takes a hit and this year was no exception. We are now back into line with the figures we were seeing in 2019 with averages per head almost exactly the same. The best lambs to sell are certainly the heavier offerings which were making from £90 to £100 with the heaviest from H & S Nesfield selling to £105 for some strong Charollais lambs weighing 49 kg. There were a lot of quality lambs on offer this week with the best of the export grade sheep selling to 243p from C A Worley Farming Ltd for some super smart Beltex crosses at 37kgs.
About half a row of late season hoggets were on offer this week with some of the meated sorts without erupted teeth still selling well up to £87 from both Mrs M Hooker and W Cooke & Son (Farmers) Ltd.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could “help us to help you” by arriving earlier to assist with appropriate sorting and penning of sheep. Lairage facilities are available from 2 to 6pm every Monday and we can accept stock from 6am every Tuesday.
Sales here in Ashford are supported by buyers representing a large cross section of abattoirs throughout the country. Please ensure your FABBL status is up to date and if you are not FABBL assured seriously consider becoming so – certain buyers are restricted to the purchase of only farm assured stock.
