Finished Sheep

Top price per head – £101 – P J Gilbert ; Top price per kilo – 219p – C A Worley Farming
Report on trade: A normal sized entry this week with around 1500 lambs penned and a very good show in terms of quality including a large number of continental cross lambs which have been intensively finished to produce some top quality meated lambs. These were in demand for both the home and for the export trade. Prices have certainly seen a lift as a result of the upcoming Muslim festival with buyers stockpiling for the inevitable demand that is set to take place in two weeks time.
The heavy sorts were the best sold once again as they are in short supply nationally and regular vendor C & J Georgetti & Sons were well rewarded with most lambs selling approaching 200p per kg to a top price of £101 and most of the run of 260 lambs selling in excess of £90. Best continental sorts were certainly an improved trade this week with a super run of Beltex lambs from C A Worley farming topping at 219p and £90.
Producers please note – For top results please present well fleshed lambs which are preferably dry and clean. Lairage facilities are available every Monday evening.
Sheep sales here in Ashford are supported by buyers representing a large cross section of abattoirs throughout the country. Please ensure your FABBL status is up to date and if you are not FABBL assured seriously consider becoming so – certain buyers are restricted to the purchase of only farm assured stock.

Cull Ewes and Rams
1056 sold
Report on trade: A bigger entry of ewes on offer this week with over 1000 penned as often is the case at this time of year with the onset of weaning. Numbers were also swelled by the upcoming festival in a couple of weeks time but the trade was similar to recent weeks with the best ewes in demand but the leaner sorts only competed for by the grazing men with little demand for these in the wholesale market. Meated sorts are in shorter supply and these ewes sold well and up towards £90. Leaner grazing sorts traded between £35-£60.
Top prices included Suffolk crosses to £89 from T Masters, continentals to £85 form N Balcomb & Sons with Romneys to £70 from S Huggett and R H Kingston.
