Finished Sheep

702 Sold

Top price per kilo – 243p – C A Worley Farming Ltd: Top price per head – £107 – Mrs J Walker

Report on trade: A small entry this week being one of the first entries of under 1,000 we have seen for over a year. Weather conditions, demand slowing and the fantastic store trade have all come together and pushed numbers down.

As ever, despite the slide in trade on average, the best sheep still sell extremely well and again to over £100 from Mrs J Walker and 242p for C A Worley Farming Ltd. The ladies topping the stats once again!

Sales here in Ashford are supported by buyers representing a large cross section of abattoirs throughout the country. Please ensure your FABBL status is up to date and if you are not FABBL assured seriously consider becoming so – certain buyers are restricted to the purchase of only farm assured stock.

Cull Ewes and Rams

692 sold

Report on trade: Almost as many ewes on offer as lambs this week which doesn’t happen very often and trade was a little better than last week. Again, a number of ewes going on for further finishing which is a big help as the wholesale trade for these leaner offerings is very quiet currently.

Most grazing types traded from £40 – £60 with best meated £75 – £85 and rams to £107.

Breeding Cattle

39 Females Sold

Report on trade: Another good entry of breeding this week with 4 cow and calf outfits and a genuine herd dispersal of in calf cows from Blythe Model Farms in the entry

The same vendor also sold another Aberdeen Angus cow and calf outfit with heifer calf at foot to £880. All in today cows and calves returned an average of £862.50.

The complete dispersal of the autumn calving cows from Blythe Model Farms attracted a variety of purchasers from both the local area and further afield. A tremendous selection of continental cross cows all due to calve to a Sussex bull between November and January sold on a flying trade from the off. Prices topped at £1,010 for a pen of three 2013/14 born British Blue cross cows and the whole herd returned an overall average of £961.

Calves

Report on trade: A few less about this week but demand or trade, dare I say it, but more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage with buyers keen to fill orders at the moment.

A strong trade for continentals again this week with a selection of British Blues and Simmentals forward. Bulls sold to £350 for a British Blue from D Murdoch & Sons with Simmentals from the same vendor to £335, the overall average for the section retuned at £229.44. An entry of smaller and younger heifers this week with top price of £215 from Goddard & Son for a British Blue. A small entry this week returned an average of £166.67.

Top price heifer was an Aberdeen Angus from Kingcott Dairy at £180. Bulls averaged £134 and heifers £129.09. I am receiving lots of enquiries for native calves in particular Aberdeen Angus. Covid-19 Protocol at Ashford Market – updated July 2020

In common with the Livestock Auctioneers Association’s recommendations to its members Hobbs Parker Auctioneers ask that their customers wear a face covering whilst at market.

Social distancing, high standards of hygiene and responsible behaviour to others is also recommended.

Strict control of the numbers attending market is asked for and both buyers and sellers should not bring additional people with them to market.

We still recommend a ‘Drop and Go’ policy for vendors but if a vendor has a need to attend, they should always be on their own and respect social distancing.

Bovine TB Test Dates

It is very important that the date (first part of test) is recorded on cattle entry forms for all cattle sold from TB1holdings. Any recent whole herd test dates from TB4 holdings must also be recorded.

This information is critical to purchasers who may be required to test animals again and who will wish to avoid the risk of a false positive by testing again within the 60 day period.

Please advise of test dates when making cattle entries for cataloguing from TB! Holdings.
