Sheep sales reports
Finished Sheep – 2,515 Sold
Auctioneer: Elwyn Davies 07710 803901
Top price per kilo – 223p – G H Dean & Company: Top price per head -£100.00 – Link Bros
Report on trade: An improved trade on the week with a combination of tighter suppliers and an improvement in the exchange rate being the main contributory factors. Again big premiums available for the best continental crosses 41kg topping the market at £91.50 (223p per kg) from G H Dean and Co and top gross of £100 for heavy 51kg from Link Bros. Well fleshed lambs continue to take the pick of the trade while leaner sorts, although wanted, are selling at lower prices to reflect poorer killing out percentage.
A reduced number of hoggets sold at reduced rates with the majority of fleshed sorts selling in the £60 – £70 bracket.
Early arrival of lambs appreciated to ensure proper grading and sorting prior to sale. Please keep us informed regarding entries so we can notify the buyers.

Cull Cows – 41 Sold
Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill – 07795 200357
Report on trade: A disappointingly low entry of cows (perhaps because of uncertainty post Brexit ) met a superb trade as the effect of a weaker Pound immediately assists prices by making exports cheaper abroad and makes imports similarly dearer. With processing beef less critical as to its provenance much of it is from Ireland and Northern Europe, and across into Poland where some of the big supermarket suppliers have major abattoirs. This will make a difference this Autumn to their plans and hopefully our prices.
Still the differential between Farm Assured and non Assured meat cows but generally all grades some 10p/kg dearer- long may it last!
Quality Blondes from GL Boulden & Sons to 145p, 144p, 143p(2), 140p and 137p (6 av £1082, top £1178); Charolais 148p, 131p £1077 (Non FA) S Goodworth; Blonde x 131p (Non FA) I Machin; Sussex 109p £865 (Non FA) AH Hoad &Son; Dexter 109p £564 (Non FA) New Barn Farms.
Only a small show of dairy culls this week and, to be honest, no real meat cows. Holsteins to 117p, 116p, 115p £910 M Goddard; 115p £864 WS Furnival; Dutch imports to 94p £714.

Store Cattle – 15 Sold
Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill – 07795 200357
Report on trade: Only a handful forward this week but the demand is there and without doubt assisted by improved prospects for beef this Autumn after Brexit.
Nicely bred British Blue yearlings from JE Batchelor & Partners with steers to £840 and £760, heifers to £770 and £570. A smart pair of yearling Limousin heifers from ID Machin £605. 2 yr Red Poll steer £765, 30 month Red Poll steers £600 & £580.
Overage Holstein bulls remain difficult and must be sold before 12 months to avoid penalty.
Entries coming together for next week so please notify the office.
