Top price per kilo – 200p – Mrs J Walker: Top price per head – £98 – Mrs J Walker
Report on trade: A good sized entry for the time of year with just under 1500 lambs penned but a very mixed entry in terms of finish with several pens of lean lambs on offer as has been reported to be the case all over the country. Best meated sorts were sold to a distinct premium due to being in short supply and two super runs from RL Goodman and Sons and Mr T Masters were well rewarded on the day with top prices recorded in excess of £90 from both vendors. A smaller selection of export grade lambs were on offer but these still reached 190p per kg from Mr DC Foy for smart 39kg Beltex cross lambs.

Cull Cows
84 Sold
Report on trade: Another great day in the cow ring with, to be honest, not the greatest show on offer but customers aplenty and confidence in all sectors bringing about another excellent trade. We were short of dairy culls this week surprisingly but more lean feeding culls from the non assured beef holdings taking on board the advice to let the feeders obtain the assurance during the fattening period.
Good meat cows made 130-140p in general with a few younger types pushing up to 160p and £1011 for a British Blue x Friesian from M W Goddard; Aberdeen Angus 150p from Llewellyn Farms and 133p K Loveridge; Charolais 142p (Non FA) R Stannard and 133p £1113 (Non FA) Dr & Mrs R J Wratten; Simmental 135p,134p £955 C & J Georgetti & Sons, 128p G Gregory and Sussex 128p,126p (Non FA) from D Martin and 123p £907 A & A Barr Farms.
Cattle were short of flesh amongst the dairy culls where young meat made to 140p from R Sternberg Farms and best heavies over 120p with plenty 90-110p.
A big show of cull bulls saw a Charolais to £1270, Aberdeen Angus to £1109, Sussex to £1049 and Limousin to £1031.

Store and Finished Pigs

Report on trade: In Summary the best pigs in the finished pens were an excellent trade but less money was available for the second quality. Cull prices remain strong but demand for stores was limited.
The best finished pigs made to 100 to 130p per kg with P W & P Sim’s best grossing £113 and Saddlebacks and crosses from East Sutton Park Prison making to 114p. Mr G Stokes sold good shaped pigs to 120p and £92 with the rest offered mainly 50 to 100p.

In the store pig pens £20 to £40 covered all the pigs offered with no real bit to the trade as can often be the case as winter gets closer
Regular supplies of pigs are required as demand has firmed in recent months. Please keep in touch with us here in Ashford if you have pigs to sell.
