New Season Lambs

Top price per head – £122 – G H Dean & Co

Top price per kilo – 259p – S Husk

Report on trade: Although slightly back on the week of new season lambs this was another cracking trade with overall average comparing favourably with national figures. Big premiums available for the best export type lamb notably Beltex cross from S Husk and G H Dean & Co taking the pick of the trade.

Again well fleshed medium/heavy weight lambs continue to sell well with the best in excess of £100 due to relative tight supplies as reflected in the overall averages of the different weight brands.

The majority of lightweight lean lambs selling in the £65 to £75 bracket.

Hoggets again very dear late in the season with best fleshed heavyweight including 2 toothers taking the pick of the trade in excess of £100 and up to £119.50 while the majority of lighter leaner sorts attracted prices in the £65 to 75 bracket.

Producers please note – For top results please present well fleshed lambs which are preferably dry and clean. Lairage facilities are available every Monday evening.

Sheep sales here in Ashford are supported by buyers representing a large cross section of abattoirs throughout the country. Please ensure your FABBL status is up to date and if you are not FABBL assured seriously consider becoming so – certain buyers are restricted to the purchase of only farm assured stock.
