Top price per kilo – 208p/kg – GH Dean & Co: Top price per head – £93.50 – PJ Gilbert Ltd
Report on trade: A larger entry of lambs this week with almost 2200 penned which sold on a trade that was stronger than Mondays reported figures, but not quite as strong as we have seen over the past two weeks. However, it was in the corresponding weeks of last year, when we saw a more severe drop in price levels and thus the gap between the 2015 and 2016 levels has increased to 41p/kg. A number of factors have played their part in this with the Euro exchange and numbers forward being the most influential on the price. Despite the slight decrease this week, we have still seen the best grade continental lambs selling in excess of £2/kg with a tremendous run of lambs from GH Dean & Co selling to 208p/kg for 39kg Beltex crosses with several other pens over £2. Others in the top spots included DC Foy to 207p/kg and DG & JW Gore at 201p/kg. The price per kilo for the best heavies was once again not far behind the smart continentals with 47kgs from J Rye to £91.50 (195p/kg) and 49kg lambs from AC Hulme & Sons to £92/hd (188p/kg).
