Finished Sheep

1,294 Sold

Top price per head – £109 – H & J Noakes: Top price per kilo – 226p – N A Vincent

Report on trade: Another bigger entry of lambs this week, with the lift in trade starting to find a few more lambs from the finishers as opposed to just the home bred sheep. Nationally the averages were in the region of 180p per kg and the figures in Ashford were just ahead of this with a good number of lambs selling over 190p and a few over 200p.

Home trade for the biggest and best meated lambs helped these really ring the bell with a tremendous lamb from H & J Noakes selling to £109 with N C & C G Hedges taking second place at £101.50 for some well-bred Rouge lambs. Several export weighted continental lambs were on offer this week, something we were very short of last week, and these sold to 226p from N A Vincent with second place taken by C A Worley Farming Ltd at 214p. More lambs can be sold at these levels without any effect on trade.

Sheep sales here in Ashford are supported by buyers representing a large cross section of abattoirs throughout the country. Please ensure your FABBL status is up to date and if you are not FABBL assured seriously consider becoming so – certain buyers are restricted to the purchase of only farm assured stock.

Cull Ewes and Rams

785 sold

Report on trade: Another big entry of almost 800 ewes in the pens this week with a big number of leaner sorts on offer once again. Best meated ewes are still well sold but they are just in short supply which drags the averages down.

Top spot today was taken by C A Worley Farming Ltd at £90 for some strong continental ewes. Grazing types were trading from £30-48 for all breeds depending on condition but there were more buyers for these types present again this week.

Store and Breeding Sheep

225 Sold

Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903

Report on trade: A bigger entry this week with best stores selling to £70 from R Douglas and with E J Clough in second place at £67.50. The overall average being returned at £58.60 and only the very longest term sorts selling under £50.

Finished Cattle

Cull Cows and Bulls

81 Sold

Report on trade: Another sizeable entry of cull cows were penned, predominantly from the beef sector, now that weaning, housing and scanning is largely completed. Trade was a little easier overall but meat cows held up well, tidy young feeders remain a good trade but the older, colder, plainer cows that really could do with next spring’s grass, to flesh up are hard work with potential customers short on the ground.

Meat cows with assurance generally made 100p to 120p per kg with the non-assured perhaps 10p behind. Smart feeders sold well to 140p for purebreds. The cold beef cows straight from the field could be 70p to 85p if young enough but the remainder 40p to 65p with space and dry ground at a premium, and little chance of a speedy finishing and turnaround.

Headlines included Charolais 141p, 130p, 118p and £987, £900 Vexour Pedigree Cattle; Aberdeen Angus 122p, 111p, 110p £918, £869 Vexour Pedigree Cattle; Aberdeen Angus cross 112p, 107p(2), 104p £995, £991, £926 B Sutton; Simmental cross 112p £808 R F & E A Simmons; Limousin cross 105p J Batchelor & Ptrs and Sussex 98p £712 (Non FA) D T Marden.

Not many dairy culls were on offer and no real heavy fleshed types forward. Again just short of 100p for good meat with the half meat 70p to 85p and plain types 40p to 70p depending on carcase size.

British Friesian 97p R F & E A Simmons and 97p (2) B J Goodsell & Son with Dairy Shorthorn 94p Parrett & Son.

A Blonde Bull made £900 and 90p.

Two runs of quality youngsters attracted competitive bidding with 6-8 mths Charolais cross steers to £760 from G J Ostridge and Limousin cross heifers to £650 from Gardners.

Special Sports and High Performance Vehicle sale

Wednesday 27th November at 5pm

There is always something to look forward to from Car Auctions here in Ashford …

Our next special sale is for Sports and High Performance Cars followed by a bumper General Car Auction

Five years ago we introduced this special November Car Auction to liven things up a little towards the end of the year.

It has become very popular and brings in a good selection of interesting entries.

We hold it on Wednesday the 27th November, because we don’t hold a general car Auction on Monday the 25th, (it`s the one sale in the year we miss) so we get a double entry of vehicles and buyers. It works well and we get very busy.

As you are probably aware, good quality stock is in short supply, and prices are high, so, if you have anything to sell, book it in early so we can market it properly for you and let the right people know what`s coming in.

Classic Car and Motorcycle Auction Report – 25 October 2019. Auctioneer: James Johnson 07710 803901

Sale report and prices from our Autumn 2019 auction.

Our Autumn Classic Car Auction approached with much interest and trepidation. It was a full day of selling at Hobbs Parker with our model railway and steam engine auction kicking off the day at 10am.

We started the car auction with twelve miscellaneous lots including many Mini new old stock parts and Jaguar wire wheels, bidding was furious for these and proved a big draw and interesting addition to the sale. The Mini parts collectively made £4,653 whilst the Hamper and wheels achieved £341 and £748 respectively.

IN the vehicle section we had a diverse list of entries with bidders equally as keen for the selection of air-cooled Volkswagens as the double decker Routemaster bus.

Here are some notable highlights.

1951 MG TD – This car had been holed up in West Hampstead garage since 1978 with a timber frame built around it, we promoted this car in the Hobbs Parker main reception for a fortnight before the auction, it achieved £9,460 including buyers premium on the day.

1936 Rover 12 – Made £10.450 on the day and amazingly goes off to be pressed into service as the new owners everyday car.

1967 AEC Routemaster double decker bus – Achieved £27,500 including buyers premium, it was the first Routemaster we have offered, these vehicles are very popular as promotional and wedding vehicles and I’m hoping to have more soon.

Kia Elan – An extremely rare car and a piece of Kia’s heritage the car was once owned by Kia UK until they sold it in the late 90’s, we sold it back to Kia UK so it went home as it achieved £10,230 including buyers premium and will be featured in Auto Express and Autocar magazine over the coming weeks.

Porsche 356 Speedster – A very attractive Porsche 356 Speedster by Chesil reached £24,620 and was probably the most photographed car of the sale.

1970 Volkswagen 1500 – This had been with its current owner since 1977 reached £7,150 whilst the 1972 Volkswagen Variant Squareback achieved £6,270 after being in storage since 2004.  A 1988 MK1 Golf GTI Convertible that needed tidying here and there but displaying low mileage achieved £5,170.
