Weekly Sales News – 16th July 2019
With combines starting to roll and plenty of hay on the ground market day was not a priority for all but the hard core of our livestock farmers this week. The lamb trade eased in line with national trends.

Finished Sheep
2,335 Sold
Top price per head – £88 – C & J Georgetti & Sons: Top price per kilo – 215p – G H Dean & Co and C A Worley Farming Ltd
Report on trade: A good sized entry of lambs this week but trade was a bit harder than we have seen in recent weeks. Large numbers are on the market nationally with a lot of grass fed lambs being sold which has diluted the trade for the well finished fed sheep. This, coupled with a reported lack of retail demand and uncertainty in the export trade, has seen the lamb trade has suffer.
Best lambs still are selling in excess of 200p per kg to a top price of 215p from both the C A Worley Farming Ltd and also from G H Dean & Co. Heavier lambs topped at £88 this week form C & J Georgetti & Sons, with this sector of the marketplace most hit by the lack of demand.
Sheep sales here in Ashford are supported by buyers representing a large cross section of abattoirs throughout the country. Please ensure your FABBL status is up to date and if you are not FABBL assured seriously consider becoming so – certain buyers are restricted to the purchase of only farm assured stock.
