Sheep sales reports

Finished Sheep – 2,497 Sold

Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903

Top price per kilo – 248p – Mr K Lukehurst; Top price per head – £106  – Mr R H Smith

Report on trade: A similar sized entry this week in the pens and a slightly stronger trade for all classes of  hoggets. As the number of good finished animals reduces across the country as we go on in the season, this has in turn helped the prices to lift a little this week with the average returned 6p up on last weeks national and Ashford figures.

Best quality export sorts sold in excess of 200p per kg from Mr K Lukehurst, Mr J Bull, D & K Taylor, Agripal Enterprises, Mr D Hopper and Tilley Farm Partnership.  Heavyweights were better sold this week with most sheep over 48kgs making in excess of £90.  A top price of £106 and £100 was achieved for some very heavy hoggets from Mr R H Smith and  £96 from Boyes & New.

A flying trade for the new season lambs on offer today saw all buyers looking to get a few of them for their butcher customers.  Some top quality first draws of sheep from local vendors sold to a top price of 256p (£100) from Mr D Isaac for some cracking 39kg Beltex crosses and some 36kgs sold to 250p (£90). Lighter lambs from Mrs J Howie sold to £84 (35kgs at 240p). More lambs could have been sold to the vendors’ advantage with no effect on the trade.

Cull Ewes and Rams – 530 Sold

Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903

Report on trade: Ewes this week were a similar trade to last with not quite the level of quality we have seen recently in the pens. Best ewes still made around the £100 mark with many Suffolk crosses in the £80 region along with fleshed Romneys and Mules in the mid to high £70s.  All throughout the entry the ewes averaged £72 as there were a few leaner sorts forward, however those that there were sold well, as they are in demand in the wholesale market place.

Top prices on the day included continentals to £100 from A Denning, Suffolk crosses to £94 from Boyes & New, Mules to £79.50 from Hadlow College, and Romneys to £78.20 from G R & A J Weller.

Store and Breeding Sheep – 299 Sold
