Sales Report – Friday 14th August

Store Sheep – 5,478 sold

Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903

Another big entry of store lambs for August, with just under 6,000 lambs catalogued and less of the stronger lambs than a fortnight ago.
Buyers were certainly harder to convince this time around with no rainfall in the past fortnight and little on the horizon at the time. We did, however, manage to convince a few from the West and North of us to come out and buy some lambs which returned a level trade for all types that was back by maybe £5/hd. Once again, pleasing those sellers who needed sheep away from the barren deserts of the South East, and also satisfying the buyers who managed to find some keep to put them on. Will these lambs go dearer in the coming months? Undoubtedly they will when conditions improve, but we can only operate with the conditions we have on the day and sell the sheep to the best trade we can achieve by using all of our contacts in the industry.
Top on the day were some strong Texel cross, shorn lambs from W Stewart Wood at £129.50 with others from S C Gammon at £127.50 and R Price & Son at £124. These stronger types that are best suited to intensive finishing generally traded from £115-£128 and medium sorts traded from £100-£115 with only long term lambs below £100/hd (with this being very long term when we are starting in August).
