Report on trade: This Friday saw another brisk trade for the best forward store lambs on offer which sold readily around £65 and up to £67.80 for a pen of Charollais x Romneys from S G & G T Orpin with several buyers in attendance keen for lambs to turn around before Christmas. Medium sorts made £57 to £62 and only very small keeping lambs made below £50. We saw a similar trade for Romney wethers with the best making around £55 and an overall average around £50.

A few pens of ewe lambs were on offer with the best making up to £71 for Suffolk x Mules from R Walker & Son but otherwise generally less money than recent sales.

The ewe teg trade has been difficult all this year but showed some signs of improvement on Friday with a smaller show on offer. Romeny ewe tegs sold to £120 from G A & H Vicary & Son and a good run of North Country Mules sold to £126 from Swallow Mill Farms. Suffolk x Mules topped at £111 from E W & R E Hanks.

We saw a very strong demand for breeding ewes in the pens with several of the sheep on offer selling for more than the tegs sold on the day. Top spot was taken by The Montreal Estate at £115 for Mule 1 lamb ewes which were closely followed their second pen at £106 for similar sheep. Texel cross 3 & 4 lambs ewes from Langrish Farmers sold to £92 with the best Suffolks selling to £91 form Mr P Denne.

Good young breeding rams are still selling to good demand with strong Suffolks to £340 from W Stewart-Wood, Beltex x Texels to £400 from mrs C Worley, Beltex x Charollais to £405 from N Balcomb & Son, Texel to £400 from T Husk, Charollais to £350 from F Newington and T Husk and Romney £420 from G Wimble.

Rams will be offered at the next 2 sales after the breeding ewes in the pens with no MV accredited facilities – up to 100 expected at each sale.
