Store & Breeding sheep 3,452 – sold
Auctioneers: John Rossiter 07557 392903 & James Cook-O’Connell 07780133678.
Report on trade: A smaller entry for the second October sale, with numbers now beginning to drop a little as we now move to a fortnightly selling schedule.
The next sale is the 24th of October with a section for penned rams. Trade this week was very lively again with an improved average by a couple of pounds per head with all included in the calculation. More of the West Country buyers were present this week to take larger numbers of lambs now that there is grass keep, and that the turnips are growing. This ultimately creates a far livelier trade for all lambs on offer and all strong sheep were well over £100 with only the long term sheep, and the lesser Romneys under £100. Top on the day for bigger sheep was M Critcher & Partners at £131.50 and top in the Kent section being £126 from Alex Pynn.
As to be expected now for the time of year breeding sheep numbers are starting to wind down however customers were plentiful. A great trade for everything with Romneys tegs to start from A R Dunlop to £165, and Romney tegs from G Braxton this time to £150. A super run of Texel cross tegs from Husk Farms Ltd topped at £230 (twice) and £225, with Mules tegs from T Husk to £225 and nothing sold under £220.
Flock aged Texel cross ewes from P Tampin to £154 and £152 with strong Charollais cross ewes guaranteed to go again from E W Homewood topping at £171 and £152.
Please do inform me of any breeding sheep you have to sell in the coming weeks with customers present every week.
