Report: We again hosted The South Eastern Texel Groups Show and Sale of pedigree sheep and a good entry of both ram tegs and females came forward. The Group efficiently ran the judging of the classes and Richard Georgetti (Rolvenden) was their judge.

Results – Females 1st Miss C Langrish; 2nd Miss C Langrish and 3rd J Warnock & Son

The sale kicked off with P H & P E Skinners purebred Texel flock dispersal which met good demand and saw ewe tegs make to £225, ewe lambs £160 and older ewes £148. The females sold averaged £160.

The Texel Group sale started with the champion ewe teg from Miss C Langrish which made £350 (her 3 tegs averaged £300). J Warnock & Son sold 4 ewe tegs to £400 (average £363) and N Shearman 5 to £455 (average £376).

The rams topped at £660 for the first prize from Vexour Flocks while 4 others sold in excess of £500 from Miss C Langrish and J Warnock & Son. Ram lambs sold well at £500 from S J & J L Vine.

Unregistered Texel rams tegs to £550 from S J & J L Vine Charollais to £355 from Vexour Flocks and Lleyn to £300 from A T West.

An excellent entry of commercial rams forward giving buyers plenty of choice. Trade was strong from the off with a ringside full of buyers all eager to secure the other half of the flock for the coming year.

Suffolk’s were first through the ring and proved very popular with fierce competition from the off. Top price of £620 for Suffolk’s went to N A Balcomb & Son with not less than three at this price. Plenty of Suffolk’s sold around the £500- £600 mark showing the confidence in the job this year.

Charollais having a good following with plenty of demand this year with two vendors presenting some excellent specimens for buyers to pick from. Top honours were shared between B J Baker and N A Balcomb & Son at £600. Most trading around the £500 mark.

Once again Kingswood Farmers excellent entry of Texel’s topped the Non MV section with a high of £660 with the whole pen returning an average of £512. Other notable Texel prices include Stuart Wood with a top of £560, H V Link Partnership with rams to £400 and C Fuggle with rams to £400.

Crossbred rams remain well sought after here at Ashford with Texel cross Beltex from C A Worley Farming Ltd to £500, the popular Beltex cross Charollais to £500 from N A Balcomb & Son and Suffolk cross Beltex from the same vendor to £420.
