Sheep Sales Reports

New Season Lambs – 1,205 Sold

Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903

Top price per kilo – 358p – G H Dean & Co, Kent.
Top price per head – £174.00 – D Isaac & Holly Chandler, Kent.

Similar numbers on offer and trade was again at roughly the same level with two tiers for the heavy, concentrate fed lambs versus the ultimately, lighter and grazed lambs, which dilute the average prices to levels that do not necessarily reflect the prices achieved by the best. An overall average of 43kg is less than we have been seeing but the heavy lambs were still selling well in excess of the averages and topped at £174 head from Dylan Isaac & Holly Chandler. Around the country, bigger numbers of (lighter) lambs have come out to market and caused a surplus to demand as is often the case at this time of year. Numbers on offer solely dictate the prices achieved and this will continue up to Christmas before we are likely to see any potential boom in pricing.

OTM Cattle and Cull Cows – 26 Sold

Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357.

Very disappointing not to be able to follow last week’s excellent entry but this simply shows how critical the supply side is currently within the livestock sector. Of course, we shall see more later as the season moves on, the weather changes, and scanning takes place within the beef herds, but I am still thinking numbers will remain historically short.
Trade remaining very strong indeed with a good complement of fleshed dairy culls and a mixed spread of beef cows.
