New Season Lambs – 1,698
Top price per kg: 347p – Eastlands Farm
Top price per head: £156 – J H & A H Godden
A smaller entry this week with almost 1,000 less lambs on offer in comparison to last week, but despite the festivities ending last week the drop in numbers managed to keep the trade up to similar levels to what we have seen in recent weeks, but the two tiered pricing is very much in place with the intensive finished lambs selling well in excess of £3 kg, but the lesser grass finished lambs at lighter weights were trading from 250-300p kg. We expect to see this trend continue through the summer months with less people choosing to purchase in feed at the higher prices, which will keep the trade for the heavies up at its current level. Weight is heavily rewarded in today’s trade with the biggest of the lambs able to break the £150 barrier to a top of £156 from J H & A H Godden. Numbers on offer will dictate the trade from this point onwards so please let us know what numbers you intend to send.
