More lambs on offer this week with over 1,500 penned. More variation in quality but the better end of the finished sheep were well sold on the day at prices similar to recent weeks, and 300-320p kg is quite common place. Many of the heavier types traded from £150, to a top of £185 from L E Humphreys & Sons, with others from C & J Georgetti & Sons and D Isaac & Holly Chandler over £170 head. General trade for lighter weights was very variable, in line with the quality of the sheep on offer. Lambs that are presented clean, dry and empty always sell for the best prices each week.

Cattle Sales Reports

Finished Cattle –  81 Sold
Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357.

A larger entry of cattle with, again, quite a significant proportion coming straight from the grass. Best fed cattle holding their rates, but middling types would be a little less overall. Few best feeders as producers rightly look to get the most out of their cattle.

OTM Cattle and Cull Cows – 65 Sold

Good numbers forward today and, though there was a high proportion of minority breeds, this is no way affected the trade which was in fine form as numbers nationally remain critically low. With processed meat critical to the fast food and ready meals industries it appears the sky is the limit when it comes to securing stock.
Without anything particularly smart plenty of meat beef cows 260-300p, with Blonde feeders topping out at 328p from A & C Price.

A special mention to the minority breeds this week which came forward in numbers and with most carrying good flesh they met a very competitive trade with tremendous returns for their breeds, size and shape.
