New Season Lambs – 743 Sold

Top price per kg: 298p – C & J Georgetti & Sons
Top price per head: £141.50 – C & J Georgetti & Sons

A very small entry this week with the finished lambs becoming harder to find in the South East – a Tuesday following a Bank Holiday Monday doesn’t help numbers either. Trade was certainly helped by this smaller show of numbers with the overall average in the 250p per kg region, well ahead of many other centres on Monday. If the heavier sheep are considered in the averages the figures are more like 260p! This shows us what a demand there is for heavier and well fleshed lambs at the moment. Some very good weighted and finished lambs from C & J Georgetti & Sons really rang the bell this week topping both sides of the rankings at £141.50 and 298p/kg.

OTM Cattle and Cull Cows – 26 Sold

Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357

As is so often the case, entries reduced on a post Bank Holiday Tuesday and numbers were totally insufficient for demand.
Nationally supplies are very tight with dairy farmers, having done an early tidy up as grazing disappeared are now eager to see as much milk production as possible from winter rations.
Bigger numbers from the beef sector will be some way away and there will be little flesh on many of these unless some early weaned cows have been fed to take advantage of high prices.
A very strong trade today for both flesh and feeders and more are wanted.
Mostly leaner older beef feeding cows but readily 160-180p. A few fleshed cows around 180p £1200-£1400 but good cows would be well over 200p.
Charolais 180p £1400 (NonFA) N Morgan, 164p £1231 J C Loveridge; Limousin x 179p, 169p,166p £1160, £1146 (Non FA) J & A Lawrence; Angus 178p(2) £1269, £1267 (NonFA) B G & M A Tomsett.
Some quality fleshed Black & Whites on offer today and well sold.
British Friesian 189p, 185p, 178p, 175p, 174p, 171p £1337, £1195, £1162, £1134, £1109(2) Debden Court; Holstein 170p, 165p £1381, £1267 P J Forknall.
Bulls very dear.
Charolais 141p £1468; Angus 130p £1729; Blue 129p £1092.
