Another exceptional trade with smart handyweights and well fleshed heavyweights attracting a big premium. Although a quality run of heavyweight Charollais cross took top honours from Master Joey Burden other well fleshed sorts sold readily in excess of 280p and £130. More lambs in this category are wanted every week to satisfy strong demand.

Good numbers in the pens again with a larger proportion of plainer grazing types. The best ewes regularly £100 -£120 to a top price of £126 from W & P New T/A Moorhouse Farm for strong Suffolk cross ewes. Medium sorts generally £75 – £95 with a strong trade for the leaner grazing ewes with the better grazing conditions this autumn bringing out more customers. Grazers £45 – £65 throughout with very few sold below these figures.

Another big August entry of store lambs with an abundance of keep throughout the country resulting in strong competitive bidding at ringside from buyers from Norfolk to Cornwall. Vendors rightly keen to sell at these current price levels.
The few better fleshed lambs on offer sold readily at £105- £110, and up to £118 from Bowley Farm Ltd while the best of the stores attracted prices in the mid £90’s. A favourable overall average of £85 with only small long keeping lambs below £75.

A much better show of finished cattle both in numbers and quality. Best beef bred Continental crosses in excess of 260p. A smart Limousin cross steer topped the market at £1779 (297p) from W Alexander (Shoreham) while a run of quality Limousin cross steers from A J Thompson & Sons sold well in the 250p to 284p bracket and grossed up to £1877.
Dairy bred cattle generally 230p to 245p with Limousin x Friesian steers to £1588 (243p) and Hereford x Friesian steers looking well sold in the 240p to 245p bracket and grossed up to £1461 from A J Down.
A good selection of native bred cattle with a well-shaped Aberdeen Angus cross steer topping the section at £1693 (259p) from Dan Mackelden Ltd and £1416 (258p) from W S Furnival Ltd. Purebred Sussex steers well sold at £1569 (233p) and £1542 (224p) from M Moncrieffe and Sussex heifers at £1209 (233p) from J Hooker & Son.

All from the dairies this week and trade certainly stronger. Little flesh on offer, generally, but good cows from Huddlestone Farmers to 169p (twice) and grossing to £1356 and £1289. The remainder plain steakers and boners and generally 110 – 160p kg.
Stock bull (1) A tremendous Hereford bull sold at £1600 in the lump after becoming reluctant to enter the ring!

Calves – 39 A decent selection of calves today with plenty of forward stronger types well followed by buyers.
Bulls today topped by a strong run of Angus from J E Scutt & Sons at £280 and £260, with J C & S K Williams Ltd also selling a good run to £255. A nice selection of mainly older Blues topping at £255 and £245 (x2) from J E Scutt & Sons.
Heifers dominated by Blues offering a decent selection with 11 in total. Top price of £225 from J C & S K Williams Ltd. Only two Angus heifers forward with young calves from J W Boyd & Sons Ltd to £160 and £140.
Very few dairy bulls today but best done types well followed with a top of £185 for British Friesians from J E Scutt & Sons. Bobbies a stand on trade with a stronger Holstien from J C & S K Williams Ltd to £40 and Jerseys bulls to £12.
Weanlings – 2 Just two 4 mths Angus from S E Lane & Partners today with the bull to £320 and the heifer to £300.
