New Season Lambs – 1,161Sold
Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903
Top price per kilo – 347p – K & P M Sinden & Sons, Kent. & T R Holt, East Sussex.
Top price per head – £200.00 – P N & C Burden, Kent.
A smaller entry of lambs which has been the case around the country over the past week, helping the trade to stabilise after the rapid drop we saw in the previous fortnight. The lambs on offer today were of high quality which in turn helped the averages to lift to just under 320p kg. Readers will be pleased to hear that Paul Burden, actually, managed to witness his ambition come into reality with a superb Charollais lamb topping the charts at £200. Heavy and fleshed lambs were the order of the day with several of these from 320p-340p kg from vendors such as K & P M Sinden, T R Holt, C & J Georgetti & Sons and G H Dean & Co. Reports suggest that wholesale trade is slowing and therefore buyers are finding it harder to sell the carcase stage of the supply chain. Even though we would all like the highest prices we can achieve, a level trade of 300-350p kg every week is a very favourable market level for the UK finished lamb price.

Cattle Sales Reports
Finished Cattle – 38 Sold
Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357.
A good quality entry after the Bank Holiday met a firmer trade with supply still the critical factor, up and down the country, despite, again, many of the big firms taking money out of their deadweight prices knowing fully that they will have to step it up again as soon as kills increase as we get into the autumn period, and then again in the period preparing for Christmas.
Plenty of well fleshed yarded cattle, with a few leaner grass types as grazing disappears. All well sold and strongly competitive.
Best cattle in short supply, and generally 370-390p, topping with Limousin heifers from W Alexander (Shoreham) Ltd at 394p, £2282. Steers to 389p, £2428 for a Black & White Simmental from W S Furnival Ltd. Lean strong Wagyu x steers to 370p, £2254 Trenchmore Ltd.
Limousin x Friesian steers from A J Down to 376p, 375p (2) £2266 whilst his Hereford x Friesians sold to 362p, £2377. Hereford x Friesian steers to 370p, £2014 from P W&P Sim & Son.
A good mixture amongst the natives with a real range of weights, but finish throughout. Strong Angus steers from A C Hulme & Sons to 379p, 375p £2773, £2760 whilst at the other end of the size scale well finished Red Poll steers from Trenchmore Ltd sold to 368p, £1958. Angus x heifers from W S Furnival to 375p, £2076.
