A few more out nationally, and in Ashford, with just under 1,500 penned for the first time this season. A two tier trade has evolved within the lamb section now with a big difference between the grass finished lighter weights and the concentrate fed heavier weights with regularly a £30 head gap between. An overall good quality entry of lambs with some very smart continentals topping the day from Jamie Watt at 405p kg but several other pens selling towards £4 kg from Dylan Isaac, P & E Andreozzi and C A Worley Farming Ltd to name a few.

Cattle Sales Reports
Finished Cattle – 38 Sold
Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357
With numbers short as producers concentrate on hay & silage making, there was another sharp trade for all grades, with buyers recognising the tightness of supply of both well fleshed and finished stock and the leaner lightweights that need the extra coat of paint.
Best cattle up over 300p kg with M B Farms selling both Limousin steers and heifers to 313p, £2188 & £1707 but R F & E A Simmons were not far behind with heifers to 309p kg and steers to 300p.
Good beef bred cattle 275 – 290p kg with quite a bit more weight on offer generally.
Dairy bred Limousin from A J Down found a superb trade selling to 275p kg twice and grossing up to £1982, his Hereford x Friesian steers sold to 273p, £1608.
Fewer natives this week. Sussex to 278p kg, £1693 W S Furnival Ltd.

OTM Cattle and Cull Cows – 17 Sold
Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357
Desperately short in a “hay making” week and but certainly no letup in the trade with a largely unglamorous entry selling well. Only the one Continental beef cow selling to 183p, £1223 from R F & E A Simmons whilst decent Sussex cows from Messrs. Kinnear & Co sold to 185p, £1208.
There is no danger of prices falling dramatically but there is a watershed in the trade early in July as the export market quietens with processors on the continent shutting down for the holiday period. If they are fit sell them now.
Overage (7) Sussex x Friesian OTM heifer 221p, £1235 with a run of Holstein steers173-218p kg topping at £1212.
Stock bulls (1) Good Shorthorn bull well sold at 155p kg, £1761.

Dairy Cows – 2 Sold – Top 134, Average 121.0
Store Cattle – 55 Sold
Auctioneer: James Cook-O’Connell 07712 246474
An absolute flying trade which was kicked off with a herd dispersal on behalf of Messrs Gann & Brown, Whitstable consisting of mainly Angus cross cows with Angus calves at foot. The strongest of the cows and calves reached £1550 with majority of the others £1300 – £1450.
Store cattle remain to come forward on a weekly basis in small numbers however demand is high. A run of 10 month old Angus x Friesian from S Kilman saw the steers to £800 and the heifers to £700. Simmental bulls 14 months from M W Rix to £1380.
Please do inform us of any store or breeding cattle that you intend on selling in the coming weeks.
Pigs – 45 Sold
Auctioneer: Tom Hamplett 07966 104532
Finished (31) – A fantastic trade for finished pigs today with some excellent quality on offer. Best pigs and heavier types particularly well received and sold to vendors benefit. Topping the trade today was a tremendous run of Pietrain from Snowfields Academy which topped at 240p pk or £186. A lovely run from P & R Marshall topped at 220p pk or £176, with weight certainly seeing the better rewards overall.
Cull (2) – A brisk trade for those on offer with tops of 68p pk for a 165 kg sow from Princess Christian Farm.
Stores (12) – A decent pen of 12 white boar pigs from P & R Marshall sold for £30 per head.
