New Season Lambs – 1,766 Sold

Top price per kg: 359p – Miss K Tucker
Top price per head: £161.00 – C & J Georgetti & Sons

Another good entry of lambs this week with a two tier trade between fed and grass types, once again, and a spread of £80-£160/head for all on offer. With the heat having a major impact across the country some markets did not operate in the “red zone”. With a big effort from all staff and vendors, and some slight changes to how we operate, we managed to ensure all animals were well tended to throughout the day. This lack of lambs on offer nationally today helped the trade to lift a little on last week with the best quality fed lambs selling to top at £161 from C & J Georgetti & Sons with several pens from G H Dean & Co and M J Ashworth selling in excess of £150. Grass types today were trading well from £90-120 with only real store types selling under £100.

OTM Cattle and Cull Cows – 25 Sold

Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795 200357

Quite a decent entry of cull cattle considering the day! Certainly more flesh on offer amongst the beef cows with a few decent feeders also on offer. Trade remains at a marvellous level and, as we look at the bare fields around us, it may well be worthy of consideration if some early calved cows are weaned away from calves and both move forward to a different future? Few real meat cows amongst the dairy sector and low yielders must really be considered with best feed rations retained for better production animals.

Simmental cross 224p £1598 W & P New; Limousin cross 224p £1419 (Non FA) R Martin, 204p, 200p £1569, £1307 J Berryman; Blonde cross 208p £1175 J Berryman; Beef Shorthorn 206p £1808 (Non FA) North School; Sussex 194p, 193p £1325, £1184 (Non FA) Miss A Sills; Dexter 133p, 131p £530, £522 (Non FA) Mrs J M Gilbert.
