New Season Lambs – 1,708 Sold

Top price: 351p p/kg – G H Dean & Co
Top price per head: £164 – T Masters

A larger entry this week with 1,800 lambs on offer. More variation in weight ranges as more grass finished lambs are starting to come out, whereas for the past few weeks we have mainly seen concentrate fed lambs. Trade was slightly easier this week, but not to a noticeable degree, as it was all weight dependent and the heavier the lambs were, the better they would sell per kilo and per head. This trend is becoming more common in the summer months with the catering outlets keen to secure the larger cutting lambs, at a time when this product isn’t readily available in big numbers nationally.  Top spot this week was once again taken by Tom Masters at £161 whilst some smart Beltex cross lambs from G H Dean & Co really stole the show selling to 351p for 39kg, closely followed by K Axell’s Beltex cross at 347p.

Auctioneer: Peter Kingwill 07795200357

Despite the best attempts of local and regional road systems to complicate our day another very strong trade for quite a decent entry on a busy silage and hay making day.

Good meat cows remain, not surprisingly, in very short supply and commercial types generally 170-200p. Feeders and grazers very dear again with the best types regularly 200-230p. Keep looking around for candidates and check out those late spring calvers that are not showing any signs of calving!

Charolais cross 260p, 234p, £1451, £1121 J C Loveridge; South Devon 217p, 190p, £1451, £1345 Horton Park Farm, 193p, £1415 Gardners; British Blue cross 214p J C Loveridge, 202, £1018 R C & J L Pickering; Simmental cross 212p, £1322 W J Hurley; Limousin cross 205p, 201p, £1170, £1162 J C Loveridge; Sussex 205p, £1299 (Non FA) C Yarnold; Aberdeen Angus cross 191p (2), £1486, £1362 (Non FA) Miss J Biddle.

A day of plain cows from the dairy sector but well sold from 120-160p, in general!
