New Season Lambs – 1,471 Sold
Auctioneer: John Rossiter 07557 392903
Top price per kilo – 403p – G H Dean & Co, Kent.
Top price per head – £193.50 – C & J Georgetti & Sons, Kent.
Another good entry of lambs with just under 1,500 penned, slightly more than we expected but lambs are now travelling further to Ashford, being drawn by the very attractive prices achieved. Well finished, and consequently fed lambs are the order of the day as they are going short all over the country with buyers fearing a real shortage in the coming months. A few more vendors today who are not generally lamb feeders and have sold as stores but on today’s prices, it is easy to see why they are making extra efforts. A super run of quality lambs from C & J Georgetti & Sons topped the day at £193.50 though PN & C Burden and L E Humphreys & Son were not far behind taking joint second at £189 head. Handy weight meat lambs were of very good quality today with a lot of these approaching £4 kg and this was broken 3 times on the day by G H Dean & Co topping at 403p kg and C & J Georgetti & Sons and Snowfields Academy realising 402p and 400p kg respectively. The trade is very good for finished lambs at the moment with no real signs of it easing back as numbers certainly look like they will be tight for some time.
