A slightly smaller sale this week with a very split entry of lambs in terms of quality, with some very strong stores selling at top prices but also a big divide in the entry with several pens of smaller and very long term lambs on offer that brought the averages down by approximately £4/hd. Strong store lambs which lend themselves to short term intensive finishing sold between £130-140/hd and topped with some superb continental lambs from J Hooker & Son of Maytham Wharf. The overall average of £119/hd was down on the previous week by £4/hd but as I said, this was generally based on the quality of the entry. Romney wethers traded to a top price of £128/hd from Link Bros with most of these trading from £110-120/hd.
A good show of shearlings for the time of year with majority penned being North Country Mules with plenty of interest for these. Strong North Country Mule shearlings from D Howard Farms Ltd took top spot on the day with the majority £280/hd and topped at £282/hd, followed by a run from Swallow Mill Farms with North County Mule shearlings also topping at £265/hd. Our annual consignment of Suffolk x Mule shearlings from E W & R E Hanks saw regular customers forward with the best to £270/hd and others to £255/hd (twice) and Suffolk x Mule shearlings from G A & H Vicary not far behind topping at £240/hd.
There will be more breeding sheep forward on Friday 9^th October with good runs of shearlings already entered and available to view in our catalogue online.
