This can only be seen as an absolute flying trade all the way through with all lambs included averaging £123/hd, and there was a good number of smaller Romneys included in that calculation. Many pens of genuine store lambs that were not to be retained for breeding or going to slaughter sold in excess of £140/hd with this topping at £146 from J A Biddle, closely followed by W J Hurley at £145 and Alex Pynn , H G Tompsett and W J Waters all sold at £144/hd. Strong lambs to suit further finishing on hard food generally traded from £130-£145 with the next type of running lambs from £110-£125 and then only very long term types cashing at figures below £100/hd. Best Romneys this week topped at £133.50 from West Court and most middle of the road types in this breed were selling between £110-£125.
An improved trade as to be expected with better quality forward and plenty of customers ringside looking to top up numbers.
Suffolk x Mules tegs shearlings from S E Lane & Partners were well farmed and topped at £265 with Texel x Mules from C Woodhead to £242. A smart run of North Country Mules from Swallow Mill Farms topped at £265 with others £262 and £260 followed by smaller Mules from G A & H Vicary to £232.
Breeding ewes attracted plenty of customers with a smart pen of flock aged Suffolk cross from Kingswood topping the section at £232 followed by T G James with Texel cross one lamb ewes to £215.
Breeding sheep are expected to continue coming forward in coming weeks with shearlings already entered for the 2nd & 9th October.
