The sales are coming thick and fast with the ewe lamb sale now done and dusted and one of the best trades we have ever seen on this day.
The show and sale of the best pen of 25 or more ewe lambs was taken, for what may be the final time, by Mr Stuart Howard with a pen of his superb Suffolk x NCM lambs, which sold for £195/hd. Second place was taken by H J Hecks & Son and third place to R Price & Sons. The overall average price of the ewe lambs was up by £23/hd on last year, which follows the trend of recent times, but with the summer that these sheep have lived through, this is very pleasing indeed. The better quality pens of ewe lambs sold from £145-£175/hd with even the lower end trading from £120-130/hd.
Store lambs on the day were less in numbers but the trade for these has really started to ignite, with a show of lower quality overall averaging more than previous week. We have now seen the rain and the new growth has switched a number of buyers on to secure some numbers for this winter, which ultimately pushes demand and prices up. We have a larger number of lambs on offer this Friday and there’s no reason to expect the trade to be any less.
A bigger show of breeding sheep penned as we swiftly move into the autumn months and the start of the breeding season.
Buyers plentiful and forward for all breeds and quality with a superb run of exceptional Suffolk x NCM shearling ewes from L Andreozzi topping at £300/hd for the best and the second pen not far behind at £280/hd. Strong Suffolk x NCM shearling ewes from D Mackleden Ltd topped at £250/hd with P Smith just short of that topping at £249/hd. Smart Texel x Mule shearling ewes from P & R Locke reached £240/hd with other Texel cross shearlings from M J & C W Barnes to £200/hd. A run of North Country Mules to go on and do from T Crick looked well sold on the day with the best to £248/hd with others from the same home £230/hd and £228/hd.
A superb flock dispersal of flock aged Texel x Mules from S W Batch topped at £181/hd for the best with others £177/hd and £149/hd.
Please do inform us of any breeding sheep you have to sell in the coming weeks in order to be placed in the catalogue and advertised correctly.
Breeding sheep this Friday 11th September include a dispersal of 600 North Country Mule breeding ewes from D Howard Farms Ltd and a run of 220 North Country Mule shearling ewes from Plumpton College.
