Top Price Per Kilo – 423p – G H Dean & Co, Kent.
Top Price Per Head – £198.00 – C & J Georgetti & Sons, Kent.
A few less on offer and one of the most two tiered selections of lambs we have seen for some time, with a £100/hd spread in the pricing from the best finished creep fed lambs down to what are really grass fed strong stores now. The best on offer are still very well sold and £4/kg is commonplace, but the super heavies did ease maybe £5-10 compared to last week’s flying trade to a more reasonable level. Top on the day was taken by C & J Georgetti & Sons at £198/hd, which was the leading pen of a superb run of 230 finished lambs. A marvellous run of Beltex crosses from G H Dean & Co topped at 423p/kg with the whole entry of nearly 300 averaging well over £4/kg. With the weather relentlessly hot for the past week, many lambs are showing signs of the conditions and the prices achieved for these leaner types are still very favourable, however it is becoming apparent that we really need some rain by the ned of the month to maintain these prices for the store sales.

Trade a touch easier than last week with one or two customers not present but still an acceptable level that compare well to other selling methods. Best on the day was a superb steer that had done the show circuit this summer from Birt Brothers at £2,675/hd, with the same vendor taking 388/kg for another similar style of steer. Heifers on the day topped at 375p/kg from Dan Mackleden Ltd. A smart run of young bulls from C R Cook topped at 378p/kg which was approaching £2400/hd, a super price when you look at the ages of these and a testament to the finisher.
