Lambs and Breeding Sheep
5,910 sold
Sales Report – Friday 19th September
Store sheep 5,703 – sold
Auctioneers: John Rossiter 07557 392903 & James Cook-O’Connell 07780133678.
Report on trade: A good number of lambs on offer and a more mixed entry from the top end down to the very longer-term types. The best are all over £100 head, topping at £128 from D & J Murray and J H & A H Godden. The trade is quite up and down with a considerable gap between the top and bottom pens of each run. The strong lambs are in short supply, and therefore higher priced, whilst the so called “running” lambs that fall into the middle category and coming out in the New Year see pricing of £85-98 head. Only longer-term lambs fall below that and the Romney wethers on offer sold at similar prices to last week with the top of £98 from D Wimble and the majority from £80-92 head.
Numbers continue to come forward in the breeding pens with a variety to suit most customers. White Faced shearlings kicked off the section with Texel crosses to £202 from M J & C W Barnes followed by Lleyn crosses from B J Barker to £165. Others £150 plus.
Suffolk x Mules from E W & R E Hanks topping at £212, followed at £195 from Stone Farms. Plenty £175-£190.
Mules found the strongest trade on the day topping at £215 from Barleybrook Farm and followed closely by Swallow Mill Farms at £214 with most of the runs selling in excess of £200 per head. Quality was excellent.
Continental aged ewes from J Saunders topped at £128 followed by a run of leaner sorts from W Stewart-Wood who saw their Romneys to £114 and Suffolk x Romneys to £113.
Please inform me of any breeding sheep you intend on selling in the coming weeks.
Friday 26th September is Romney week with a good entry of tegs and aged ewes already entered.
