Top price per kg: 465p – R L Pack
Top price per head: £228.00 – R L Pack

A better entry this week with bigger numbers. A  lot more well finished sheep on offer, following the kinder weather of the last few days, and it was also evident that a number of vendors have fed hoggets to get that final finish onto their backs. Trade is still on fire for those best meated types but the “also rans” in the entry are a little harder to sell now as, nationally, the market is over run with lean hoggets. Trade looks like it will hold for the foreseeable future with the imminent Qurbani festival a reason for demand to stay high.

What will happen after this will be interesting to see.

A good show of cattle again attracting many customers from far and wide looking to get in on the action. We had some super pens of cattle this week from a good number of regional vendors who continue to be great supporters of the livestock market. Hard grazing cattle are a fabulous trade with buyers outweighing supply for these and driving to them to the levels we are seeing. Taking top spot in the Natives was C W Jones with his Angus x steers 26 mths to £1685 followed closely by M J Ashworth with Angus x steers to £1455. R W Goddard & Ptnrs had a marvellous run of Angus which could be described as peas in a pod with the heifers topping at £1305.
