Report on trade: As expected a good show of Suffolk x Mule wethers, following the sale of ewe lamb last week, and trade was very much on a par with recent sales. The best of the Suffolk crosses sold readily in excess of £60 and up to £65.50 from M A & F W Owen and averaged £56.35 overall. A small pen of fleshed Texel cross topped the market at £67 from R H Kingston while the better continental crosses attracted prices either side of £60 and medium sorts £54 to £58 and generally only small long keeping lambs sold below £50.
The first real entry of Romney wethers sold relatively well with the stronger sorts £55 to £58 and a very reasonable average of £53.40.
A small entry of breeding sheep comprising a flock dispersal of purebred Texel ewes from R G & S Hayden were well received and attracted lots of interest. The ewe tegs made up to £150, ewe lambs to £110 and the best of the flock aged ewes up to £130.
The few Texel ram tegs on offer topped at £400 from Kingswood Farmers and £290 from R G & S Hayden.
