Report on trade: Another large entry of store lambs drew a good attendance of buyers around the ring ensuring competitive prices for all on offer. The best stores sold well at £62 plus and topping at £67 for a pen of strong Charollais crosses from P G & N L Brightling while other top pens sold readily around £65. Medium sorts looked particularly well sold at £56 to £60 and only small long keeping sorts made below £52. A consignment of Suffolk x Mule ewe lambs again sold well topping at £73 from D Howard Farms Ltd. A good show of Romney wethers, late in the season, attracted plenty of interest with the best selling readily in excess of £60 and up to £65 from H G Tompsett & Sons and overall average of £53.
This week saw a bit more interest and a slightly better trade for ewe tegs with both Suffolk x Mule and Mules topping at £114 from R Walker & Son and G Hosmer & Son respectively. Second quality sorts looked relatively well sold from £85 to £100.
Although a pen of Charollais 1 lamb ewes topped at £100 from J D Goodman. The majority of aged ewes attracted prices just above feeding and slaughter value.
A total of 49 rams sold with a slightly firmer trade on the week and still looking firm for the time of year. Trade topped at £460 for a Texel from Kingswood Farmers and all in Texels averaged £241, Suffolk averaged £255 and topped at £320 from W Stewart Wood, Charollais averaged £155.33 and topped at £200 from D F & O M Bond and Beltex cross rams averaged £189.17 and sold to £255 from C A Worley Farming Ltd.
Romney rams were a little harder work selling to a top of £160 from N A Balcomb & Son.
