Classic Car and Motorcycle Auction Report – 12 July 2019

2019 marked the seventh year in which we have run our July classic car auction. Since our first, in 2013 the crowds have got bigger and bigger and the interest even greater that we now run two classic car auctions a year.

This time we had a great selection of cars and motorcycles and again enticed many eager buyers from around the country and locally.

To make a good auction you need a good catalogue of entries, and ‘oh boy’ we produced one this year and a huge enthusiastic crowd created an exciting buzz on auction day. We estimate that around 800 to 1,000 people attended on the day.

Finding entries is a real challenge but one I absolutely relish. Meeting fellow enthusiast owners and their cars in the months leading up to the auction is very important in understanding the history of their prized cars and also advising on the prices they will achieve. I am very lucky to thoroughly enjoy my job and talk to nice people about a shared passion.

Auction Highlights

Last week’s classic car auction marked our eighth event, the crowd was as we anticipated huge as keen buyers descended on our 130 plus entry line up.

Here are some notable highlights..

1964 Bentley S3 Saloon

This was a car I was particularly keen to get as an entry, everything was right about it. It had come from twenty two year local ownership and the owner had kept on top of regular servicing and repairs meaning this was a particularly nice example and ready to use. It sold on the day for £18,800 plus buyers premium.

1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce

This car had for a long time been the property of the managing director of a well known Alfa specialist, it had had no expense spared on restoration work and performance upgrades, meaning it was possibly one of the fastest Alfa Spider’s out there, the last owner talked of cruising at 130mph on the autobahns. It romped away at £15,600 plus buyers premium.

1966 Morris Mini Traveller

One family owned from new with original bill of sale, the little Traveller was a crowd puller and achieved £13,500 plus buyers premium.

1971 Volkswagen T2 Camper Bay window

This camper was a blank canvas and entered by it’s owner since 2005, having come from a Arizona it was a lovely solid basis for a bespoke finish. Selling for £13,000 plus buyers premium.

We started the sale with a line of motorcycles, two Lambretta’s from a local Mod sold well at £4,200 and £3,500 plus buyers premium respectively.
