Report on trade:
Store lambs: The Romney day sale attracted a similar entry to last year and while the ewe lambs met a selective trade the ewe tegs sold at similar levels to last year with a slight improvement for the best. The ewe lambs were a very mixed quality with the best selling in excess of £70, average quality around the £60 mark and the small sorts selling at prices reflecting store values which was a very similar pattern to that experienced on the Suffolk x Mule ewe lamb day.
Breeding sheep: A similar entry to last year of ewe tegs met a relatively strong trade with the best selling in excess of £110 and up to £130 while majority of 2nd quality ranged in the £90 to £110 bracket. A good attendance of buyers came for the older breeding ewes which attracted prices in excess of grazing or slaughter value. A pen of 2 lamb ewes topped the market at £87.50 from G Homewood, 3 lambers to £82 from the same vendor and 3 & 4 lambers made to £78 from W Cooke & Son (Farmers) Ltd
