Shadoxhurst dates back to the 13th century and the surrounding woodland offers many enjoyable walks. The village has two churches one of which dates back to the 13th century, is very small and quite charming.

The village hall together with the sports pavilion caters for all kinds of activities and the village Post Office/Shop is well stocked. The King's Head is a family run very friendly pub where a warm welcome is assured and good food is the order of the day! Every summer they hold a village fete which is well supported.

Clubs and organisations in the village include Village Society, Darby and Joan Club, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides and the Ladies Social Club.
