The village of Egerton is officially the best in Kent, having beaten 43 others in Kent's Village of the Year award in 2000 organised by the Kent Rural Community Council. It took the small villages awards for both business and community life before being judged overall winner.

The village extends from the greens and hills overlooking the Weald down to Egerton Forstal in the Weald itself.
