The village of Egerton is officially the best in Kent, having beaten 43 others in Kent's Village of the Year award in 2000 organised by the Kent Rural Community Council. It took the small villages awards for both business and community life before being judged overall winner.

The village extends from the greens and hills overlooking the Weald down to Egerton Forstal in the Weald itself. The charming 15th century ragstone church has a six bell tower which can be seen for miles, and there are a number of 15th century and Yeomans houses in this pretty village. The new Millennium Village Hall - built as a result of the œ100,000 raised by the villagers - is the venue for a Music Festival during the month of July, each weekend offering different kinds of music. The George, is a family run, olde worlde pub serving hot food together with a warm welcome.

The village has an Over 60s Club, Youth Club, Cricket and Football Club, Short Mat Bowls Club, Bell Ringers, Playgroup, Mother and Toddler Group and an Amateur Dramatic Society and a periodic Music Festival, to name just a few.
