The historic village of Charing is on the Pilgrims Way and boasts the ruins of one of the oldest manor residences of the Archbishops of Canterbury. There is a strong community spirit in Charing and they are very proud of their village green which was only the second to be registered under the new Registration Act 1991, and also of the fact that

There are frequent bus services and a BR station on the London/Victoria line. The village has a varied range of shops including two traditional butchers, grocery store and Post Office and there is also a good restaurant, where you need to book early to get a table!

Organisations in the village include Charing Guild of Players, sporting facilities for tennis, football, cricket and bowls, Playgroup, Youth Club, Beavers and Rainbow Clubs, Guides and Mother and Toddler Group.
