- Smarden Parish Guide
- Population: 1,200
Thought by many to be the most beautiful village in Kent, Smarden is comprised of lovely old period timber houses and there are more than 100 listed buildings in the parish.
The 14/15th century church is known as the "Barn of Kent" because of its wide scissor-beamed roof, unsupported by pillars.
Organisations in this popular village include the WI, St Michael's Guild and the Over 60s. Sport plays a large part in village activities with a Cricket Club, Tennis Club and an Adult Football Club as well as a Junior Football Club and a Youth Club.
The village also has Bell Ringers, Gardeners Society, Royal British Legion, Smarden Players, Playgroup, Mothers and Toddlers there is also a good Neighbourhood Watch scheme. The three friendly inns serve real ale and good food and the Smarden Bell in particular is a favourite haunt for Young Farmers!
