Great Chart has a long history and is referred to in many ancient documents. There are several references to the 'sacking' of the village 1,000 years ago by the Danes.
The village street is a conservation area, where most of the properties are 'listed buildings'. Many of the cottages are built of pretty Kent Ragstone which add to the charm of this very friendly village. The villagers are very proud of their cricket team and there is a very well kept cricket green together with a licensed pavilion funded by the Lottery where they hold many enjoyable social evenings throughout the summer. There is an active Gardening Society and Women's Fellowship within the village. Blue Barn Equestrian Centre on the outskirts
of the village is a regular venue for gymkhanas and horse shows throughout the year with excellent livery and indoor school facilities.
