A small equestrian village situated in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Waltham is criss-crossed by a network of footpaths and narrow lanes which give access to beautiful countryside. Within the parish boundary lies Yockletts Bank, a Kent Wildlife Trust Reserve, home to the rare Lady Orchid and elusive Dormouse.

There is a bus service into Canterbury, linked to school hours and the nearest mainline railway station is at Wye - 4 miles with ample free roadside parking. Ashford International is 9 miles. Primary school provision is at neighbouring Petham and Bodsham. The parish has its own monthly magazine and a good Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Activities in the village include Gardeners Society (annual show in August), Whist Drives, Petham and Waltham Social Club and Petham and Waltham Afternoon Club. Each year they hold a well supported fete, an Easter Fayre and on Guy Fawkes there is a huge village bonfire and Fireworks Display.
