Lyminge is one of the larger villages located within the picturesque Elham valley.
The village was the site of an ancient monastery founded by Ethelburga, daughter of the King of Kent & married to the king of Northumbria. She was canonised after her death in the 7th century & the monastery was later destroyed by the Danes.
St Ethelburgas well is to be found in the village playing field close to the popular primary school.
There is a cluster of shops in the village centre and the old railway station building (which fell into disuse with the closure of the Elham Valley branch line many years ago) now houses the village library.
There is a splendid cricket pitch and modern pavilion on the outskirts of the village at Sibton park and a golf course & club house with a restaurant a mile or so from the village at Etchinghill.
The modern village hall hosts a number of clubs & events including the regular practice evening for the local judo club.
Just wanted to let you know that Lesley has been a great help so far in keeping us abreast of the vendor's progress and position - I am sure you know what a wonderful job she does already, but I thought a few warm words on her behalf wouldn't go amiss. You're very lucky to have such a proactive assistant (although she's much more than that!).
